After a 30-minute car journey into the local town, the trio arrived at The Olde Bell car park.

‘I feel nervous, or sick, Cara said as she held her stomach, she wasn’t sure if it was from being in the back of a car or watching Jenny and Kirsty almost have sex in the front.

‘It’ll be fun! Just be yourself. She’ll like you.’ Kirsty reassured Cara as they made their way into the pub.

As Cara walked through the door behind Kirsty, she spotted Mel straight away. She was sat by a large table on her own, awkwardly smiling in their direction.

Mel was older than Cara expected, not that it mattered to her. She had dark brown hair which was short at one side and spiked up at the top.

Mel had been single for a while now. She often scared of girls by being too full on.

Cara made her way over to her and held out her hand which Mel shook firmly, and her grin widened, and her cheeks flushed. ‘Hi! I’m Cara, nice to meet you. I’ve heard so much about you.’ Cara felt terrible. On first impressions alone, there was no initial attraction but Cara decided to give try as she believed that personality built so much attraction to a person.

‘I’m Mel. Obviously! Nice to meet you. You look great by the way.’ Mel tilted her head to the side with a giant grin on her face. Cara couldn’t help but instantly compare her attraction towards Frankie against her lack of attraction for anyone else. Frankie instantly made her excited. Mel instantly made her turned off.

‘Ah thank you, so do you.’ Cara replied. Mel did look nice. She had made an effort. Her hair was perfectly spiked up into place. She wore tight black jeans and a dark green Ralph Lauren jumper. Her brown eyes widened as she looked Cara up and down, admiring her hourglass figure that was perfectly highlighted by her tight black dress.

‘What are you two having to drink? We will go and order.’ Jenny was great at breaking awkwardness.

‘I’ll have cider please, anything fruity.’ Cara smiled, trying to stop her thoughts from swaying over to Frankie again.

‘I’ll have a vodka and coke, please! Just a single though, I don’t want to get carried away.’ Mel winked at Cara and sat down.

‘So, what do you?’ Cara wanted to steer the conversation into normal territory. Fast.

‘I’m a mechanic. I work in town at Mumby’s garage. If you ever need work doing, you know where to come.’ Mel meant well, but she tried hard. Too hard. All of the time.

The truth behind it was that she was desperate to love someone and give them her all.

‘I’ve been there 20 years now. What do you do? Let me guess… you’re a model.’

Cara internally cringed.

‘Ha, no. Nothing too exotic. I’m a barmaid in Elverford at the Oak. I don’t plan on staying there forever but it’s not that bad.’

‘Ah, nice. I’ll have to check it out sometime.’ Mel smiled, trying not to let the conversation die prematurely.
